A 5-day life changing program for men devised by Richard Rohr OFM which has been undertaken by over 5000 men across the world.

This is not about religion, but about spirituality.  About age-old traditions that guide men into manhood.  About coming to trust that there is something much greater at work in your life than you could ever imagine. Taking you sometimes OUT of your comfort zones, but more deeply back into your own life. You may find yourself mentally, intellectually, emotionally or spiritually challenged. This is part of the experience for some men: it may feel risky or uncomfortable; you may not always feel in control. Throughout the 5 days you will be held by an experienced team of male elders who have all previously undertaken the Rites themselves. As the Elders take you through the process of the Rites you will experience drumming, ritual, fire, silence, small groups, wilderness, solo-time, teaching ... and more.

The Men's Rites of Passage are suitable for men of all colour, age, sexuality, ethnicity and faith tradition (or no faith); men with more severe physical disabilities are asked to provide more details of their restrictions during the application process and we will provide further advice.

The Rites in 2023

The Men's Rites in 2023 will be held on 28th June - 2nd July, 2023 at The Bield at Blackruthven, nr Perth, PH1 1PY

You can find out more by registering for one of our information calls here: http://www.malejourney.org.uk/what-s-happening

How much will it cost?

We endeavour to keep our costs down as much as we are able (none of the Elders are paid) while also trying to allow for the fact that men from all walks of life are welcome to undertake the Rites.

  • The 2023 confirmed price is £460 - and is only kept this low because the team give their time voluntarily.
  • We invite all those who can afford it to make an additional donation towards our bursary fund.
  • If you are unwaged or in difficult financial circumstances we have a bursary fund; you are encouraged to request bursary assistance on the application form.

We also endeavour to run a car pooling scheme among the men undertaking the Rites to both save costs and be environmentally sensitive.

How do I get there?

You need to arrive at The Bield between 2pm and 3:30pm on the opening day.  You will be ready to leave The Bield no later than 4pm on the closing day.  The Bield is a short bus journey from Perth railway station and there are public transport options from Edinburgh airport - you will be sent full details of all the options in plenty of time before the Rites.  If you are not using public transport then we do encourage you to sign up to our car sharing list to reduce our environmental impact.

Where will I be staying?

You will need to bring a tent and sleeping bag etc.  All your meals are provided so you will not need cooking equipment.

If you are unable to camp for medical reasons then there is limited indoor accommodation available which is at a further cost of £150.
