Our regular time of sharing includes a period of drumming/percussion followed by a period of silence when we take turns to speak, responding to a broad theme or responding to an experience, but sometimes to what emerges.

You are welcome to join our men's group for the Bristol area. We are committed to the Five Touchstones of the Journey of Illumination as the grounding of our group and honour the twin paths of descent (deepening) and ascent (becoming), embracing all that we are and can be as men.

The practice of the Way of Council is the framework of our monthly meetings.

The Yang Gang is a man’s group event that openly discusses problems and solutions to specific men’s dilemmas. Held monthly it is intended to give men the opportunity to get back to their spiritual roots and begin a new life with support and tribal connection.

As a protected gathering that gives each man the opportunity to be heard, it finds the true nature of men’s needs and desires and recognises their place in the world and their purpose in life.

Giving fathers and sons the chance to bond through simple language and recognising the work of other men’s groups and rituals, it brings together elements of nature, rhythm and basic instincts to produce a powerful collective energy.

This event is run on a donation basis with the proceeds being directed to other men’s work.

Contact: For more information please contact Lionel Cox using the form below.

Where and when we meet: Every 2rd Sunday of the month from 2pm to 6pm. We meet at Blissland, Heather Bank Farm, Congleton Edge, Congleton, Cheshire CW12 3NA. This is not the easiest of places to find so we have specific directions available on request to any attendees. We already run many events here at Blissland and it seems appropriate to balance the female Yin Crowd with the Yang Gang.

Castle Douglas

The Castle Douglas Men’s Group, in Dumfries & Galloway, meets monthly in community woodlands at Taliesin, under Screel Hill. This group is a supportive place for honest sharing, for solidarity, for being real about what it’s actually like living in a bloke’s skin.

Like ‘Fight Club’ we only have 2 rules:

  1. Absolute confidentiality, what’s shared round the fire, stays round the fire;
  2. We don’t try to fix each other, (instead we trust the process).

This group is NOT judgemental, critical, excluding, or coercive. It is not religious, or tribal, or clique-y. It is not tame – but it is safe.
If you decide to join us, it will be the place you can bring your joys, your grief, your rage, your confusion, and your quiet reflection. It can become for you, “the only place I can say this stuff”.

You can also download the Male Journey local group Circle Practice document here: Edinburgh Men's Group Circle Practice (with gratitude to our brothers in the Edinburgh Group).

Where & When:

We meet on the 3rd Friday of the month, at 7pm at Taliesin, just South of Castle Douglas. You can find directions here: http://www.swcwt.org/how-to-find-taliesin.html

What to expect:

  • Some drumming – don’t worry, you don’t have to be any good, you just need ears and hands – and a drum or plastic bucket or crate, or 2 sticks or…
  • Some sharing of what’s going on for you (we use a wonderful, simple, process called the Way of Council). You choose how much you share. We just don’t do small-talk.
  • Plenty of sitting round a fire, surrounded by nature – so bring some warm layers and some rain gear, and something soft to sit on (there are wooden benches but they can be quite hard after a couple of hours!) – a cushion in a bin-bag works well in all weathers.
  • A sense of shared vulnerability and gradually increasing levels of trust. The ‘Stoker’ facilitates the meeting (cos he’s had the training and served his apprenticeship) but you’ll find he will also participate. He will be getting vulnerable with you. This is a group of peers not a hierarchy.

Who to contact:
So, you already know in your heart if this is calling you, or not.
If it is, even if you are 50% intrigued and 50% bricking it – (that’s a normal and healthy response by the way!), then contact us hereusing the form below.

Hope to meet you round the fire.

Edinburgh

We are a group of men who meet to support each other and share wisdom for life’s journey. We meet every month, in the great outdoors, around a fire… whatever the weather!

The aim of our gatherings is to take time away from the busyness of life, to slow down, to connect with nature, with our selves and with each other. We create a safe environment to share honestly and vulnerably with one another and we encourage each other to explore and discover the true purpose of our lives. You can also download the Edinburgh Men's Group Circle Practice.
